Google Maps...for the Power Grid

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY?

CHESS_Waze_prototype.png

At a more granular level, CHESS is building an Open Knowledge Network (OKN) that semantically links concepts and data that span the relevant disciplines of space weather and the areas that are impacted. You can think of this like Google Maps for the Power Grid.

Like Google Maps when you drive through a city – you get real-time step-by-step directions, a monitor of the traffic and all the changing conditions, and updates to your route to provide the safest, quickest path.

The Information & Analysis Layers:

The linked, enriched, trustworthy data & The predictive models and interactive tools,

The CHESS OKN puts that same level of information in the hands of utilities and those responsible for keeping the lights on for society in the face of future space weather storms. The CHESS product consists of three layers: 1) the information layer; 2) the analysis layer; and 3) the communication layer.

The Communication Layer: A decision support system connecting each user to the right level of information
